IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat and started way before modern-day instant messaging services. It is a great way to get help or just talk with a group of people; think of it as a group IM. I've seen people get help on many topics, meet new people and become good friends, set up multiplayer games, and much more on IRC channels.
How do I use it?
First, you need an IRC client. I recommend mIRC or XChat, but some of the multi-protocol IM clients, such as Trillian, can also connect to IRC servers. Once you're connected to a server, join a channel and talk away! For guides on how to get to HG's channel for mIRC, XChat, and Trillian, read below. If you use any other client, here is the server and channel information.
Open up the Identities & Connections window and add a new IRC connection.
Fill out the Server Alias field with "HeavenGames" or another appropriate name.
Fill out the address field with irc.slashnet.org::6667
Pick a nickname (I use my forum name) and fill out the username and userinfo fields with the same name.
Click Connect and then open the status window (usually found through the white IRC circle on the contact list).
Type "/join heavengames" to join the HG channel.
Welcome to IRC!
You are now ready to chat with members from all over HeavenGames. Remember that all rules of the forums and sites apply in the IRC channel as well. Have fun!
